No, I don't. If I want to achieve enlightenment, then that means I can't let myself be tempted by material attachments. Walking the Way of Empathy means you have to be willing to give, even when it hurts!

...Which means if I find any shiny stuff here, I shouldn't keep it. Maybe I can give it to you!

Good answer! Maybe it's something that's in my heart, but muscles don't get strong unless you do a lot of hard work with them, right? The Way of Empathy wasn't a talent I was born with. It's a choice I make. Like giving away shiny stuff, even if it's really pretty.

...Trading sounds nice, though. Really, really nice! We both get treasures that way.

[Well, she's super glad she was genetically engineered for it, so she can keep all her shiny garbage. Tortle has a hard life ahead of them.]

The more treasures you give away, the stronger you get? It's like that?

What kinds of treasures can you have? Wooden things? Do you eat? Do you like water?

I do, in fact, eat! AND like water!

[For now. They'll get over that 'needing food to live' thing eventually.]

Um... cool rocks? Fallen leaves? Sand? There are lots of cool things just lying around outside that I think would make pretty great treasures.

[Oh my god, they're speaking her terrible goblin language. They have no idea how much amazing garbage is in her bag that she's been hoarding because it is treasure.]

Those are very good treasures! I have-

A really green leaf and some that were different colors and Kravitz makes me wipe the sand off my food, but it's still in my bag. I can give you some. And I have seashells-if I find some that aren't shiny, I'll give them to you too. And sprinkles from [LAST MAY DON'T EAT IT] a cupcake. You can eat them.

I lost the little things I had when I arrived here, mostly, but once I find some shinies, I'll definitely come swap! Ooh, or - or I've still got my supply of ceremonial ink! I could give you a tattoo! But only to celebrate an important moment of personal growth. It's very ceremonial.

Okay! I'll try to grow, but I'm already tall. I think I need magic to get bigger.

I'm looking forward to it! I don't just mean literally, though. Heart and spirit need to grow just as much as your body does!

How does your spirit grow?

I guess that depends on your Way. The Way of Four Elements taught me that your spirit grows through embracing change. Adaptation and accepting the impermanence of all things keeps you grounded in the present and... y'know. Stuff.

But I follow the Way of Empathy now, and that's a little different! That says that your spirit grows through acts of mercy and compassion. You lift others up and give part of yourself to any who need it, and what grows back in the empty space is stronger than what was there before.

...Is that too pretentious? I hope it's not too pretentious. I think the things that make your spirit grow are the struggles that you decide you have to be better than!
