The Omniscience Meme

You now know your entire canon! All of those things that happened before you were born, when you weren't in the room, after you died... it's all there, in your head.

...And in the mind of everyone else, for that matter. Now what?

...I admit, I do have to wonder how far we'll ultimately get. I'd been worried about the future, before, but I hadn't realized I needed to be so concerned about literally repeating our past.

True. It's just that I'd previously thought that involved more refusal to learn from one's mistakes and less actual time travel.

[Like, for all the things that could have been a factor in human-monster relations, she seriously wasn't expecting time travel to be one of them.]

We're in a liminal island space where time is pretty secondary.

[Not for nothing, but she ought to get used to it.]

Well, yes, but this place was already fairly unusual. I could see time travel happening here, but at home? Really wasn't anticipating that.

[Some people might question her defining somewhere with an underground kingdom of friendly magical monsters as 'not unusual' but, y'know, it's what you grow up with.]

I suppose in retrospect it does explain those odd little moments of deja vu I kept having...

Of course, in answering that question it's now raised a great many new ones.

Yes, my best options for answers in that department appear to be three different children, someone who may not technically exist, or... Sans.

Honestly, getting an explanation out of a man who isn't real anymore might be easier than getting Sans to give me a straight answer.

Surprisingly few things are truly outright impossible, I hear- most are merely vanishingly unlikely. So if something can happen, then if one keeps going long enough, it will.

At which point it simply becomes a matter of persistence.

For once, given my world's apparent fondness for the concept, I don't think I do. The distinction between the two is fine, but it is there.

Determination, I think, is refusing to give up on one's goal- regardless of the consequences. Persistence is simply refusing to give up on everything for good- regardless of the pain.

Let it not be said they don't often overlap, admittedly.

Purple for perseverance, dearie- I don't use it just because I'm trying to match my color scheme.

Rather awkward choice of phrasing, there, but I understand what you mean. And yes, our souls only come in the one shade, unlike yours.

But just because your soul shows your strongest trait doesn't mean you don't have any of the others at all- people aren't that simple.

I suppose it might be simpler if we were, but I suspect it would be a lot less worthwhile, too.
